Dysmenorrhea is a cyclic pathological process during which there is the manifestation of low abdominal pain during the menstrual period. Such pain can be accompanied by other symptoms: general weakness, nausea, vomiting, headaches, dizziness, loss of appetite, dryness of the mouth, hyper-salivation, abdominal distension, syncope as well as other emotional and vegetative disorders, increase of body temperature up to 37 – 38°C.
At times, the main symptom could be one of the abovementioned complaints, which disturbs the patient more than pain. Severe pain exhausts the nerve system, promotes the development of an asthenic state, decreases memory and working ability. Approximately 30 – 50% of women of child-bearing age suffer from dysmenorrhea of which 10 – 15% of women are not able to work every month for 1 – 3 days.
Dysmenorrhea is the main reason for short-term absence of young women from school or jobs.
Treatment is performed by a daily illumination of the cervix during bleeding using low intensive lasers through a special vaginal nozzle. Treatment duration is 10 procedures. The second course of treatment for the stimulation of ovulation and increase of estrogen synthesis is started 3 – 4 days prior to the start of menstruation.
