Gallbladder Function Test
Gallbladder function test provides information about gallbladder capability to release bile after a meal.
Normally, the gallbladder stores some amount of bile, that is released after the food is ingested. Later, after the bile reaches its destination, the gallbladder relaxes.
In some cases, the gallbladder loses its ability to contract in time or to relax after contraction. It results in a variety of symptoms from stomachache to diarrhea, nausea or constipation. This can be corrected by a diet or medication.
The procedure is a series of ultrasound examinations: the first one is performed on an empty stomach after 12 hours-fasting. The others are performed after a small meal over some time intervals for 2 hours.
