Hygroma

Hygroma is a tumor like lesion (cyst), which is located subcutaneously with a fluid filled cavity. Externally, it resembles a balloon, embedded subcutaneously. The most commonly encountered types of this disease include Hygroma cysts and Hygroma of joints. Cystic Hygromas appear subcutaneously on the wrists, frequently in the region of the radiocarpal joint, but can also appear on the palms.

There is a very high frequency of reoccurrence after the usual standard surgical resection. In our clinic, Hygromas are resected via lasers with ultrasonic guidance. The laser waveguide is executed through a needle, meaning that the surgical incision site is replaced by a puncture (pinhole). The frequence of reoccurrence is decreased due to the destruction of the Hygroma’s capsule.
